Where to go in Aruba
Arikok National Park is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The park, which covers about 20% of the island, is home to cacti-covered landscapes, caves, sand dunes, and unusual rock formations. The unusual rock formation known as Ayó is made up of large boulders covered with Indian sculptures, and the Casibari Boulders, weathered by trade winds, are strewn among dry scrub. For excellent sights and photo opportunities, stroll the paths and steps climbing through the rocks.
The wave-battered beaches of the island's north side are also part of Arikok National Park. The Natural Bridge at Anicouri was carved by wave erosion and collapsed in 2005, but you can still see a smaller natural bridge here, which is a perfect spot for a picnic. The Bushiribana Gold Mill Ruins, located on the picturesque waterfront, are the ruins of a 19th-century gold smelter. The park is home to a variety of animals, including parakeets, rabbits, lizards, frogs, and iguanas. A 4WD vehicle is preferred because the roads can be rough, and some areas are not accessible by 2WD vehicles, but you can also explore on horseback and walk the many trails. A full day is recommended here to really appreciate all of the park's top attractions.
